Biological Dentist in Blaine Answers Your Questions
October 26, 2015
Biological dentistry is an exciting field that has a lot to offer you and your teeth. But if you’ve got questions about what that means, you’re not alone — it’s often misunderstood as something that it’s not. So this morning, settle back and listen up; Dr. Green, your biological dentist in Blaine, is in to answer your questions.
Q: Why’d you start practicing biological dentistry?
A: That’s a good question, and one I still think about a lot. It started back in 2008, when I’d been in private practice for 10 years. I had seen a lot of changes in dentistry during that decade — most of which I wasn’t proud of. To put it short, dental insurance companies had lost the best interest of our patients. It was made painfully clear to me the day I had to cut down a whole tooth that could have been simply repaired with minimally invasive care — but the insurance plan just didn’t cover it. At that moment, I saw that the number one tenant in dentistry — conserve the tooth whenever possible — had gone out the window. Traditional dentistry wasn’t working, and I saw an answer in biological dentistry.
Q: What is biological dentistry?
A: Simply put, biological dentistry takes into account your whole body during your dental care. We use materials and and techniques with all of you in mind, not just your teeth. Your mouth doesn’t exist in a vacuum, completely separate from the rest of you — no, our bodies are a complex, interconnected system. That’s why I look at the whole picture when considering your dental care.
Q: So are you a holistic dentist, then?
A: I try not to use that term, as it often conjures (correctly or incorrectly) ideas of experimental care at best — and guesswork at worst. No, at Imagine Smiles, we consider ourselves a biological dental office because we use materials and procedures that are proven to be safe and effective — and we can point to the scientific evidence that backs up those claims.
Q: How can biological dentistry help me?
A: In practice, biological dentistry has a wide range of applications. For you, that may mean that your filling isn’t, and will never be, made of mercury — I also call myself a mercury-free dentist in Blaine. Or it could mean that your gum disease may be best treated nonsurgically. I also have a different stance on root canal therapy than most dentists, which you can read about here. Whatever your dental treatment, you can feel comforted knowing that I’m truly thinking about you and your best interest the whole way through.
Q: Is Imagine Smiles accepting new patients?
We certainly are! If you’d like to learn even more about how a biological approach can help your teeth, your mouth and your self, don’t hesitate to contact our office for an appointment today. We’re proud to serve patients in Blaine, ME and surrounding areas with the biological dentistry that does our community good.
