Mercury-Free Dentist in Blaine
Silver amalgam fillings have been used to restore decayed teeth for over 200 years. However, most people have no idea that ALL metal fillings contain mercury. Dental amalgam is a mixture of metal powder and no less than 45% of elemental liquid mercury, which is a potent neurotoxin. Recent studies from around the world have now established a direct correlation between dental amalgams and numerous human neurological disorders. Many countries have now outlawed the use of dental amalgam to protect their populations, and while the official stance of the American Dental Association is that dental amalgam fillings are safe, our Blaine, MN office takes no chances with your health.
A Mercury-Safe Dental Practice
In addition to their toxicity, amalgam/mercury fillings pose other risks. Amalgams are temperature-sensitive, expanding and contracting when they come into contact with any hot or cold substance. Over time this weakens a tooth and ultimately leads to enamel fractures and tooth sensitivity, often creating a liability to your long-term dental health.
Dr. Green does not use silver mercury fillings because of the documented hazards to our bodies and our environment. He is a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology and continues to educate himself on the dangers of mercury, working to eradicate its use in dentistry. Dr. Green also provides a safe environment for the removal of old, leaking mercury fillings through the use stringent removal protocols and proper disposal, and has worked with several area chiropractors and homeopathic physicians to assist patients in removing the mercury which is already present in the body.

With CEREC crowns you'll never see that metal ring at your gumline again. You’ll experience renewed oral health, optimal esthetics, and revitalized function with CEREC One-Visit Restorations.
A Healthier Alternative - BPA-Free Composite Resins
Dr. Green also places composite resin fillings to repair small cases of decay or to replace older, existing metal fillings. Composite resins are adhered directly to natural tooth structure, providing a barrier against decay-causing bacteria. By using composite resin to repair teeth, Dr. Green can also retain more natural tooth structure, which is better for your smile. Since composites are 'glued' to the surface of the tooth, the required preparation is commonly much smaller than with silver mercury fillings. As a rule, the more tooth that is removed, the weaker the tooth becomes, so saving tooth structure retains tooth strength. Plus, resin won’t crack a tooth when exposed to heat and cold, which lessens the chance that you will need a crown, or even worse....a root canal, in the years ahead.
